The Calvary in Kindberg

One of the most beautiful calvarias in Austria

The Calvary in Kindberg with its church was built at the end of the 16th century and counts to the most beautiful calvarias in Austria. Its example was the Calvary in Graz. Typical is the natural rock out of basalt on which the Calvary and the church are located. Around the church chapels are located, holes and plastics with drawings of the passion ceremony are to see. All together there are 13 stages which show life-sized figures out of wood and stone. Partly they were created by famous artists.

At the rocky hill the so-called Georgiberg the famous church Georgibergkirche is located. In the 13th century the gothic church was built in honor of St. George. Since 1994 it belongs to the club “Georgibergverein”. Various events take place there regularly, for example the event Advent am Georgiberg or the traditional event Bartholomäschnalzen. But also without an event this place is worth a visit. A highlight are the sculptures made of the artist Franz Krammer. The sculptures are placed around the church.
