MÜRZER OBERLAND
The beauty of nature has always had a great fascination. A particular jewel of the region “Die Hochsteiermark” is the natural park Mürzer Oberland. With a size of 22.600 hectares the park extends over the landscape conservation areas of Veitsch – Schneealpe – Rax and the nature reserve “Naßköhr”, reaching from 700m to more than 2.000 m above sea level.
In the municipalities of Altenberg an der Rax, Kapellen, Mürzsteg and Neuberg an der Mürz steep rugged limestone massifs meet gentle alpine pastures, deep valleys, romantic river basins and large forest landscapes, thus shaping a unique landscape with a fascinating fauna and flora. Having been rated as “Naturpark”, natural park, this landscape is now a protected area wherein humans play a significant role. Thus the idea of a natural park is based on four pillars: protection, relaxation, education and regional development.
Each “Naturpark” village offers, apart from a beautiful scenery, a variety of activities to visitors and locals alike. In the natural park Mürzer Oberland you can experience what it is like to feel one with nature.
